AIRPORT officials and police corrected widespread rumours of plane crash at the Lynden Pindling International Airport yesterday.

Shortly after a man was accidentally crushed by a plane he was working on at LPIA, claims began to circulate that another plane crashed into Lake Killarney a short time later.

Police shut down those rumours immediately, explaining that while there was another incident at the airport, it was nowhere near as serious.

Inspector Chrislyn Skippings said that while still on the runway preparing for takeoff, a pilot noticed some smoke in the cockpit.

The pilot decided to return to the airport terminal and get the problem checked by engineers, she said.

No one was harmed during the incident.

Officials from the Air Traffic Control Room also denied there was a crash but would not comment on what actually happened in the second incident.

The Tribune understands the plane was a Jet Blue aircraft.

Public relations manager for the Nassau Air Development Company, Shonalee Johnson, said the plane taxied but turned around because of “some issues”.

She could not say what they were, but she also revealed that Bahamasair also had an issue with one of it’s planes.

Ms Johnson would only say that the plane could not take off yesterday, but stressed that no aircraft crashed and no one other than the deceased American was harmed.
