THE defending champions Career Building Lady Cheetahs and last year’s runners-up Bommer G Lady Operators took the opening game of their respective New Providence Women’s Basketball Association best-of-three semifinal series at the DW Davis Gym on Saturday night.

While the pennant winning Lady Cheetahs needed overtime to pull off a slim 64-63 decision over the Super Value Cybots Queens, the Lady Operators routed the Johnson’s Lady Truckers 90-78.

Cybots Queens 63

Phylicia Kelly scored 22 points with five rebounds and four assists, while Pamela Bethel had 17 points and 13 rebounds in the win.

The game was tied 53-53 at the end of regulation.

For the losers, Taneil Poitier had a game high 33 points with seven rebounds and five assists and Cristin Seymour added 11 points with 10 rebounds. Marvia Dean only scored two points but she pulled down 19 rebounds and had two blocks.

Lady Operators 90,

Lady Truckers 78

Malesha Peterson scored 17 points, Suzette McKenzie had 15 points with 11 rebounds, Sharelle Cash had 14 points and Diasti Delancey had 11 points with eight assists, six steals and five rebounds in their big win.

For the losers, Latoya Rolle had a game high 22 points with 13 rebounds and five steals, Glenda Gilcud 18 points with five assists, Shantell Rolle 15 points with six assists and Ann Bullard added 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Game two in both series is scheduled to be played Tuesday with the Operators taking on the Lady Truckers in the opener at 7:30pm. The feature game will be played between the Cybots Queens and Lady Cheetahs.
