Families of custody death victims demonstrate

Family and friends of Aaron Rolle, Jamie Smith, and Job Munnings are protesting in Rawson Square at this hour, demanding to know why their loved ones died in police custody.

Rolle's death occurred within 24 hours of Smith. Both men were reported to be in good heath when they were arrested last month.

Munnings was shot in Abaco while he was unarmed. The Tribune understands that the officer who shot him is still on active duty in Grand Bahama.

Well on the "other news site" they gave the full pathologist report for what each died of. Rolle died due to blunt force trauma whereby ruptured intestine and hemorrhaging was the cause of death and Smith died of asphixia. (AGAIN Tribune step your investigative reporting skills up!)

As a person in the medical field, to die of a ruptured intestine and hemorrhaging is consistent with serious blunt force trauma that cannot occur accidentally.

As a person that once had a family member in police custody tell me that he was taken to an unknown person's house, doused with water, hooked up to electricity and given shocks until he talked.

I understand that crime is out of control, but this my friends is torture.

One time ago police use to beat suspects for days and days when they wanted information. And back then, they didn't take these persons to the hospital for treatment after the severe beatings, but left them in the cell to 'get better'. Then they released them or beat them again and again if the needed more information. Today's generation cannot take that kind of punishment. They are afraid of pain and many of them have spent a good part of their lives smoking (weed and cigarettes and bedes) so it doesn't take much for them to sufforcate, once their air supply is cut off. Also there a number of persons on medication who get pick up by the p[olice. They are refused their meds and police in instances are not aware of their medical condition before they submit them to truma and beatings. Many times these persons are innocent and have to return to their families broken and in need of additional medical attention. Some never recover mentally. I know of a young man who is autistic. He looks normal to everyone else because he has learned to disquise his disease But when he gets upset or in a situation he cannot handle he just goes walking. Sometimes it is late at night and the police would pick him up (which is good for his own safety) but they lock him up try and put crimes on him and lock him up. He gets trumatized and doesn't understand why he cannot be free to walk in his own country. This is wrong.

These stories are beyond disturbing. I know for a fact if a loved one asks to remain in the waiting area at any police station they are not permitted to stay, even if willing to wait overnight. They are told to leave as the officers say they are unwilling to take responsibility in the event anyone unruly is brought in. The argument being it's for your own protection. REALLY? Friends or family can bring a plate of food but are not allowed to see the person. If you stand your ground they will threaten to arrest you. Having said this, I expect any one of these dead young men's mothers would rather be arrested and locked up in a cell next to their son, than return the next day to be told they are dead. I know I would!
