A JAMAICAN man became the country’s latest murder victim after two men forced their way inside his home and shot him yesterday morning.

The culprits broke into the Sunrise Road home in Gamble Heights shortly after 2am when the 34-year-old victim and a 37-year-old woman - both Jamaican nationals - were asleep.

Sources say the woman woke up when she heard gunshots coming from another bedroom in the home where the victim, identified as Melvin Rae Clarke, was asleep.

She went to check that bedroom but was shot in the head as she opened the door. Mr Clarke of Clarendon, Jamaica was also shot in the head and died at the scene.

The woman was taken to hospital via private vehicle where she is detained in stable condition.

The culprits reportedly got into the home by forcing open the kitchen door and sources claim the gun cartridges that were fired were absent from the scene - suggesting the culprits may have taken them before fleeing.

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have any information to contact police at 919, 322-3333/4; the Central Detective Unit at 502-9990/1; or Crimestoppers at 328-TIPS.
