FAMILIAR foes face off once again to decide the top team in the New Providence Women’s Basketball Association.

The Bommer G Operators took game one of the championship series over the Kareem Builders Cheetahs with a 65-59 win at the DW Davis Gym Saturday night.

Malesha Peterson totalled a side high 17 points, Sharelle Cash added 15, while Ashley Moss finished with a double double – 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Phylicia Kelly led the Cheetahs and all scorers with 25 points.

The Operators opened the season with a one point win (74-73) over the defending champions but the team has had several hard fought contests over the course of the season.

In a late February matchup, Kelly may not have been a part of the Four J’s Lady Cheetahs when they repeated as champions of the NPWBA last year. But she has made a strong case for the new look Lady Cheetahs in their quest for a three-peat. She pumped in a game high 25 points and nine rebounds in a 52-48 victory over the Lady Operators on the night after they received their championship rings for the 2012 season from Bahamas Basketball Federation president Charlie “Softly” Robins.

The defending champions got by the Super Value Cybot Queens to advance to the championship series, while the Operaters eliminated the Johnson’s Lady Truckers.

Game two in the series tips off 8pm Tuesday at the DW Davis Gym.
