Person grieving at Shell Gas Station on Tonique Williams Darling Highway yesterday morning.

While police did not release his identity at the time of the discovery, several persons close to the deceased said he was Albon Gibson.

A 2003 graduate of the Bahamas Academy Secondary School and an employee of Armoured Express Bahamas Limited, Gibson had for sometime struggled with kidney problems.

Up to press time, police were still unsure of the cause of death, but The Tribune understands that Gibson, who is in his late twenties, was on his way to work when they believe he experienced complications. The incident occurred shortly before 9am.

He then drove his maroon coloured 1997 Honda Accord into the western side of the service station’s parking area where he was later found. When The Tribune arrived at the scene, Gibson was still inside the vehicle in a slumped position. His legs were already out of the car.

Several of his colleagues said they were shocked to learn of his sudden death. They were alerted that something was wrong when a supervisor repeatedly called Gibson on his cellphone, because “it was unlike him to be late for work.”

After several calls, a police officer at the scene answered the phone informing the caller that Gibson had died.

Lounie Markis Petit-Jean, who had worked with Gibson for the past five years said he always did his best despite struggling with a medical condition.

“For us as young people,” he said, “we (should) share that passion that Mr Gibson had because when he came to work he always talked about the Lord. For us, as his coworkers, his memory will live on as a person who lived his life for God.

“In the midst of his sickness, everyday he came to work and he performed to his best.

“He lost one of his kidneys and so he was in and out of the hospital. I spoke to Gibby last night on Facebook and he said to me ‘don’t lose faith I’m going to be all right.’”

“(But) knowing that he was saved is a relief, absent from the body, present with the Lord.”
