STUDENTS from the EP Roberts Primary School will benefit from the Bahamas Medical & Surgical Supplies Limited sponsorship of the BTC Carifta Games.

Bahamas Medical, which was started 13 years ago to assist in improving the delivery of healthcare in the Bahamas, has provided 100 tickets for the school in Englerston to have their students be a part of the audience of the games that will be held at the new Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium this weekend.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, we understand that we have both a duty and an obligation to give back to our community,” said Basil Barnett, the director of the company located on Shirley Street. “We are especially pleased when our sponsorship directly impacts the lives of young people in the Bahamas.”

Barnett, who was accompanied by his staff, said Carifta is the most pretigious regional sporting event for our young people to participate in.

“It serves the dual purpose of demanding sporting excellence and promoting regional fellowship among Caribbean peoples,” Barnett said. “The 2013 Carifta Games are important for the Bahamas by uniting us as a country as we put aside differences in support of Team Bahamas, both athletes and organisers.”

Accepting the tickets from Bahamas Medical’s Leomi Nordelus, EP Roberts’ senior master Clinton Josey said it’s a great gesture of love and appreciation for their students, who will be able to see the first class event at the new stadium. “We do appreciate it what you have done for us,” Josey said.

Also on hand for the presentation was Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations’ president Mike Sands and Linda Thompson, a member of the local organising committee.

Thompson, speaking on behalf of the BAAA and the LOC, said they are delighted to welcome Bahamas Medical on board.

“It’s things like this that gets us very excited because we now know that there is more and more opportunities for our children,” Thompson said. “We want you to know that we are so grateful for your kind contribution. You could have done so much more in terms of advertising, but you want to give back to the children, which was more important to you.

“We just want to thank you for that because we have the diamonds in the rough right there at Carifta and this will allow the younger children that they too can aspire to one day become a Carifta athlete by getting this opportunity to watch the games.”

Barnett said that while Bahamas Medical wishes to encourage the administrators and teachers of EP Roberts School to believe in our young people and our country as they work to mold the young minds entrusted to them, they also want to commend the organisers of the BTC Carifta 2013 and wish them every success this weekend.

Bahamas Medical, which provides a full range of diagnostic imaging equipment, including CT scanners, ultrasound and x-ray machines throughout the Bahamas, will also be a sponsor of the Under-17 boys 100 hurdles and the under-17 girls 300m hurdles during the games.
