ATTORNEY General Allyson Maynard-Gibson has urged religious leaders to help the government develop the framework to amend the country’s Constitution.

As a referendum to update the Preamble to the Constitution is expected to take place in November, several clergymen have so far presented the Constitutional commission with recommendations.

She further urged Bahamians to learn the constitution’s mandates and practice them in their day-to-day lives.

Mrs Maynard-Gibson was speaking at Bahamas Faith Ministry’s (BFM) first National Constitution Day service on Sunday. The pastor at BFM is Dr Myles Munroe.

She said: “Brothers and sisters, our hope of the full promise as a nation and as a people will be achieved when we live the words of the preamble.

“Especially recognising that people frequently respond more favourably to pastors rather than politicians, we need to hear from our spiritual fathers.

“I urge you, in this 40th anniversary of our independence, to lend your voice in urging the Bahamas Christian Council and all pastors and priests in the Bahamas to lead by their actions as well as speaking from their pulpits.”
