FOUR men pried open and kicked in the doors of Dimy Michel’s Gibbs Corner shop and home yesterday, assaulted him and two others in the house and robbed him of electronics and $3,000 cash.

Mr Michel said he had planned to pay Bahamas Customs with the cash to release the items he needed to restock his store. He had cash because he said customs did not accept cheques.

But while yesterday’s 2am robbery set his business back, he said he was grateful the men, who were armed with a gun, did not take anyone’s life.

“It’s bad, but like I said I have my life,” said Mr Michel.

Yesterday morning, a group of Mr Michel’s family and friends gathered in the little business and home as Mr Michel showed The Tribune the screen door that had been ravaged by the thieves and his bedroom door that had been kicked in as he and another resident attempted to hide in the bathroom from the intruders.

They were found in their tiny refuge, he said, and he was punched in the head and robbed of his gold wedding ring.

The men searched for, and managed to find, his customs cash.

According to Mr Michel, he might have been targeted because he runs a small business and does deliveries.

However, he said he did not recognise any of the men who rummaged through his home in the darkness.

The men made off with a 32-inch flat screen television, a laptop, Mr Michel’s wedding ring and $3,000 cash.

He said police came to investigate and promised to return yesterday.

Police reports revealed that the men escaped in a white, right-hand-drive vehicle.
