African male figures dominate new work by ceramists

The mother, daughter duo Jessica and Erin Colebrooke will stage a third ceramic exhibit “A New Direction: Mother and Child III” on Saturday at the Hillside House gallery.

Central to the new exhibition are busts that draw on the African heritage of The Bahamas. The featured male figures speak pride and nobility in every line. Previously focusing on tile murals, Jessica has taken flight into three-dimensional, larger scale figuration.

Following in her mother’s footsteps, 8 year old Erin’s work is expected to demonstrate increasing skill in the art form. Her growing maturity as an artist is a tribute to her mothers’ guiding hand.

The exhibit opens on Saturday at 10am and ends on May 31.
