Shock over human waste on Charlotte Street

FORMER Speaker of the House of Assembly Alvin Smith expressed his shock at discovering human faeces on Charlotte Street yesterday.

According to Mr Smith, he telephoned the relevant authorities around noon to have the matter removed. However up until 4pm no one had arrived.

“This is on the main Charlotte Street. Tourists are walking past here.

“We are within sight of Bay Street. It is totally unacceptable,” the former Speaker said.

The excrement was deposited in a storm drain, just north of the Grand Central Hotel.

A rag which the individual appeared to have used to clean themselves was also still in the drain. Mr Smith said it appeared as if someone had placed a piece of paper over the deposit in an attempt to hide it.

To stress that up to four o'clock no one had arrived as yet even if he had called fifteen minutes prior, he himself (Alvin Smith) should be ashame of himself. He's stating that tourist can see the mess and how close it was to Down Town so why didn't he do the easiest Proud To Be Bahamian thing and remove it himself. The time he took monitoring the sh!t he could of picked it up using a piece of cardboard or something preventing the contact to his hands. Stop waiting on others to do what any Bahamian who respects and values his island need to do in making the difference. Although it may not have been human mess, I remember just a few months back while working on Junkanoo Beach, I myself located a broom and every morning swept of the stage on that location, along with gathering up trash (bottles, cups, plates) from the surrounding beach sand. My job description did not come close to covering that task but I am a Bahamian and PROUD of my little rock (island), therefore whatever it takes to perserve it, I will.
