Artist helps childrens home

INTERNATIONALLY renowned Grand Bahamian artist Leo Brown and Bahamas Printing and Publishing Company continued their efforts to give back to the community while promoting authentic Bahamian work with their second donation to The Grand Bahama Children’s Home from sales of “A touch of The Bahamas” Bahamian greeting cards.

In 2012, Bahamas Publishing and Printing and Leo Brown collaborated to make available to Bahamians and visitors Bahamian greeting cards – with vivid, litho quality reproductions of four iconic pieces from Leo Brown’s collection.

“Our focus was on how to bring things Bahamian to the marketplace and deliver a product of exceptional quality reflecting authentic local work,” said Daniel Lowe, President, Bahamas Printing and Publishing Company.

Mr Lowe and Mr Brown agreed to donate a portion of the sales to a local charity, with Leo Brown suggesting the Grand Bahama Children’s Home.

The artist, whose work has received wide acclaim and is much sought after, remembers how much his life was impacted thanks to the generous assistance he received when he was younger, which fuelled his desire to give back to children.

“The help I received made such a difference in my life and in my art and I am really happy to be able to give back to the Home,” said Mr Brown.

Mr Brown plans to create a piece for the Home’s upcoming fundraiser in October.

Sheila Smith, of The Grand Bahama Children’s Home Executive Board, said: “This is the second generous donation we have received from the sale of these beautiful greeting cards and it comes at a time when we really need funds for basic items for the children,”

‘A touch of The Bahamas’ greeting cards are available in Grand Bahama at Leo’s Art Gallery (Port Lucaya), Bahamas Printing and Publishing, The Art of Giving and in Nassau at The Linen Shop, Logos Book Store, The Antique Shop and Arcadian Treasures.
