Commission names new market manager

The Securities Commission of the Bahamas (SCB) has appointed Velma Miller as manager of its market surveillance department with effect from yesterday.

Ms Miller has been employed with Royal Fidelity Merchant Bank & Trust for 12 years, holding a managerial position for the last seven. She most recently held the position of manager, investments.

During her employment at RoyalFidelity, Ms Miller was responsible for managing investment portfolios for institutional and high net worth individuals. She also managed the bank’s brokerage department, and was responsible for overseeing its daily operations.

Ms Miller wrote the daily and weekly stock market commentary for clients; provided investment advice and executed other client directed instructions; preparedfinancial analyses on listed public companies; and wrote stock recommendation reports.

Ms Miller holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Banking and Finance, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder. She also completed the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and holds the International Capital Markets Qualification (ICMQ) from the UK’s Securities Institute.

Prior to working in the securities market, Ms. Miller worked in the banking sector for five years.
