Bahamian group will take art donation to Cuban hospital

A BAHAMIAN delegation is departing to Camaguey, Cuba, today to take part in a ceremony that will officially mark the donation of several works by local artists to the Oncological Hospital and Paediatric Hospital in that city.

Antonius Roberts, whose career has been devoted to highlighting the wonders of the Bahamas, its nature and people, will witness the donation of pieces identified after an exposition of his works and those of others Bahamian artists, including Heino Schmith and John Cox, in the prestigious Art Gallery “Larios” of Camaguey last February.

This event is part of a cultural exchange that started in October 2012 with the celebration of Cuba’s Day of Culture in Nassau, and continued with a joint presentation of Bahamian and Cuban artists in Camaguey in February.

“This interchange is intended to strengthen and develop the socio-cultural links between the Bahamas and Cuba, something that will definitely contribute to enrich, not only the cultural arena but also the people-to-people ties between our two nations,” said the Cuban Embassy in a statement.

Mr Roberts is travelling in the company of a group of prominent Bahamian citizens, among them Sir Durward Knowles.
