Grand Bahama, Abaco on alert for severe thunderstorms

GRAND Bahama and Abaco residents have been put on alert for severe thunderstorms, with North Eleuthera also on alert.

The Bahamas Department of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning and watch from 10.25am until 12.25pm today.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Grand Bahama and Abaco and their adjacent waters and a watch is in effect for North Eleuthera.

At 10.25am radar and satellite data indicated clusters of thunderstorms over Grand Bahama and Abaco and their adjacent waters and a line of thunderstorms approaching the northern tip of Eleuthera.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours and possible waterspout or tornadic activity.

Boaters in the warning area should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Boaters in the watch area should be prepared to seek quick shelter and residents should be prepared to take quick action should conditions worsen.
