Call to unite in face of crime

BAHAMAS Against Crime has called on all concerned Bahamians to assemble in Rawson Square to protest the continuing wave of violence plaguing the nation.

The activist group said the “Take a stand” demonstration will take place in two weeks’ time, on Sunday, June 9, beginning at 4pm.

“In view of the fact that the crime crisis is not subsiding, but indeed is intensifying in its brutality and expanding in its scope, BAC is once again calling upon residents to demonstrate their grave concern, and to send a very strong collective message that enough is enough,” said BAC executive director Rev CB Moss.

“Crime is making the Bahamas, particularly New Providence, a miserable place to live. It is now presenting a very serious threat to the foundation of the national economy, the Tourism Industry. Already this number one industry is beginning to rock and reel from the effects of crime,” he said.

“The murder count is pushing 50 and we are still in only the 5th month.

“Other serious crimes are showing similar frightening trends.

“The clock is ticking, and the question is already being asked whether the nation will be able to turn the situation around before we hit rock bottom.”

BAC firmly believes the situation could be arrested and then reversed, however, Rev Moss said Bahamians must demonstrate that they are very serious.

“This will move the government and other stakeholders to implement initiatives that will have the desired effect,” he said.

“We must do it now, for tomorrow will be too late.”
