PAUL Rolle, officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit, said yesterday that although police have no one in custody for the murder of businessman Kurt McCartney, they are confident they will solve the murder.

Kurt, brother of DNA Leader Branville McCartney, was shot in the head, in Gambier Village last Thursday.

Shortly after his death police arrested eight people, six women and two men. However, they were released after a few days.

Since then no one has been arrested or charged. Supt Rolle said police have several new leads, but nothing significant to report.

“The investigation is ongoing, we have gotten tips and information and there are officers who are out there working and investigating. We are out dealing with this as well as the other homicides in this country. We are investigating them all,” he said.

“We still have no motive for the Kurt McCartney murder, but things are happening , I cannot comment on everything we are doing in the media, but we are investigating several murders simultaneously. We are going to solve this murder, I just hope we solve it sooner rather than later for the sake of the family.”

According to family members, Kurt had received a phone call earlier that night from a young woman who had allegedly threatened to kill him. He was said to have informed a close friend that he was going to “deal” with the matter and left to visit the girl in Gambier.

When he arrived at the home, it is believed that he was assaulted by a man and shot in the head.

Kurt is the second son of Mr and Mrs William McCartney. His father owns the chain of Wilmac Pharmacies. Kurt managed the pharmacy on Thompson Boulevard. He is survived by his parents, his brother, Branville, and two sisters.

Meanwhile, Mr Rolle said police have significant leads in the murder of Lamar Roberts.

Rolle was gunned down outside his home early Monday morning.

It happened around 6:30am in the Pinewood Gardens area.

Police say that Roberts was approached by an armed man, who opened fire, hitting him several times. He ran into his neighbour’s yard where he collapsed and died a short time later.

Investigations are continuing.
