VOLLEYBALL

NPVA ACTION

THE New Providence Volleyball Association continued its regular season Sunday with a double header at the DW Davis Gym.

In one game, the youthful Saints took five exciting sets to defeat the Crimestoppers 27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 22-25 and 19-17. Eugene Stuart led the Saints and all scorers with 22 points (16 kills, four blocks and two aces). In the loss, Anward Johnson finished with 13 kills and two aces.

In the second match, the Technicians, behind Muller Petit’s 13 points (nine kills, two blocks and two aces), disposed of Team Passe in straight sets 25-20, 25-14 and 25-17. In the lost, Kyle McIntosh executed seven kills.

BCA ACTION

ON Saturday, the Westerns defeated St Georges by eight wickets as the Bahamas Cricket Association continued its regular season at Haynes Oval.

St Georges batted first and scored 143 runs in 20 overs lost of nine wickets. For St Georges, Mario Ford scored 47 runs not out and Lavaughn Burrows had 34 runs. Westerns responded with 145 runs in 13.2 overs. Wayne Patrick 56 runs not out, and Gregory Irvin 32 runs, Andrew Nash 28 not out.

On Sunday, the Pacesetters defeated the Police by 34 runs. The Pacesetters scored 137 runs Jonathon Barry 45 not out. Police had 103 runs. Greg Taylor 61 runs and Mark Taylor 19 runs.

The association is slated to continue with matches 1pm Saturday and Sunday at Haynes Oval cricket pitch.

HOTROD

TURKEY RUN

THE Bahamas Hot Rod Association is all set to hold its first Turkey Run on Sunday, December 1 at the newly constructed Bahamas International Raceway in the Queen Elizabeth Sporting Complex. There will be racing and a show and shine starting at 1:30pm. Racing is slated to begin at 2:30pm. All cars, trucks, motorcycles and even boats are invited to be a part of the show and competition.

THE Nassau Darts Association has set the following dates for its 2013 Gold Cup Trials:

Dates: Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7

Venues: Waterloo Double Out Sports Bar & Corner Hotel

Women

The registration deadline is Friday, November 22.

SOFTBALL

BAISS CHAMPIONSHIPS

THE Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools’ (BAISS) best-of-three softball championship series is slated to begin 4pm today at the Freedom Farm field on Yamacraw Beach Drive. Game two in each division will be played on Wednesday and if necessary, the third and deciding games will be played on Thursday. The junior girls and junior boys will begin play, followed by the senior girls and boys. Softball is the first discipline on the BAISS’ calender that will follow with basketball, starting next week at the various campuses.

NPWBA ACTION

THE New Providence Women’s Basketball Association is scheduled to return to DW Davis Gym for a double header starting at 7pm tonight. The league is also set to play a double header Thursday and triple header on Saturday.

BASEBALL

JBLN REGISTRATION

THE Junior Baseball League of Nassau completed its registration and draft process for the 2014 season. The season is slated to begin on January 18 as the JBLN celebrates 25 years as the premier youth baseball and softball organisation in the Bahamas.

The 2014 season will feature a record number of 475 boys and girls and 39 teams playing organised baseball and softball. Visit their new website www.jblnbaseball.com for further details.
