Salem Union in 12-10 victory over Golden Gates Native

SALEM Union pulled off the biggest upset so far in the Baptist Sports Council’s 2013 Coca-Cola Softball Classic, securing a 12-10 walk-off victory over the defending champions Golden Gates Native at the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Saturday.

It was the first win for Salem for the year as they are now sitting in fifth place in the men’s division at 1-2, while Golden Gates had their three-game winning streak snapped, dropping them into second place at 3-1 behind the idle undefeated league leading Macedonia at 3-0.

Also on Saturday, in a rematch of last year’s co-ed championship, Golden Gates picked up where they left off, routing St John’s 13-4 to remain undefeated. St John’s fell into a two-way tie for second place at 1-1 with idle St Paul’s.

Golden Gates also remained undefeated in the 19-and-under division as they greeted New Bethlehem into the league with a 15-10 slugfest.

And in another men’s encounter, St Paul’s got their first win of the season as they pounded Men of Vision from Temple Fellowship 13-5.
