Rolle, Lockhart going strong on day 2 of Bowling World Cup

SONITH Lockhart dropped slightly in the standings in the men’s division, but Driskell Rolle remained in the same position as day two of the 49th QubiacaAMF Bowling World Cup continued in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, on Tuesday.

The Bahamas Bowling Federation’s male and female national champions are representing the Bahamas in the week-long tournament at the ‘World Class’ fitness centre and Hilton hotel complex owned by the Sibiryak company.

Midway through the qualifying rounds, Lockhart has dropped from No.10 to 15th after he shot a 278 to bring his total pinfalls to 2,816 for an average of 234.67. Lockhart opened the tournament on Monday with a 268 and a 1,427 pins for an average of 237.83 in his first six-game bloc.

Peter Hellstrom of Sweden remained on top of the men’s leaderboard after his 289 high game pushed his total to 3,061 for a 255.08 average. Bodo Konieczy from Germany is now in second with a 290 high game for a total of 2,949 and a 245.75 average. And rounding out the top three is William Ching of Venezuela with a 279 high game, 2,932 total and 244.33 average.

Rounding out the top five are Benshir Layoso of the Philippines (279 game, 2,916 pinfalls and a 243.00 average) and Mats Maggi of Begium (288 game, 2,901 total and 241.75 average).

A total of 74 competitors make up the field in the men’s division.

On the ladies’ side, Rolle fell one spot to 45th with her high game of 211 as she climbed to 2,200 for a 183.33 average. Rolle began the tournament posting a 205 set and a total of 1,106 pins for her average of 184.33 to begin play in the first round on Monday.

Still leading the pack is Carolina Lagrange from Canada with a high of 279, a total of 2,959 and a 246.58 average. Cherie Tan of Sinapore has moved up to second with a high of 267 for a total of 2,860 and a 238.33 average. In third place is Aumi Guerra of the Dominican Republic with a 289 high, 2,836 total and a 236.33 average.

American Danielle McEwan is sitting in fourth with a 267 high game for a 2,769 total and a 230.75 average, while Luminita Farkas Bucin from Romania holds down the fifth spot with her high game of 267 for a 2,727 total and a 227.25 average.

Six perfect games were recorded on the day by Christopher Sloan from Ireland, Or Avira from Israel, Alex de Vries from the Netherlands, Tore Torgersen from Norway, Derek Lee from Macau and Kestutis Gudauskas from Lithuania.

A total of 64 bowlers make up the women’s field.

The players in both divisions are vying for the top 24 spots for the quarterfinal after their four six-game bloc through Thursday.

The semifinal is set for Friday when the top eight will advance to the semifinal. The final is set for Saturday. The players are due to leave on Sunday.

Lockhart and Rolle are the only two players from the English-speaking Caribbean participating in the tournament.
