CANDACE Fields, 18-year-old daughter of Edward and Michele Fields, was one of four outstanding Bahamian students who graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall, a co-ed, private boarding school in Wallingford Connecticut, in June 2013.

A former student of Xavier’s Lower School and St Andrew’s School in Nassau, Candace attended Choate from 2009 to 2013. Noted alumni of Choate include philanthropist Paul Mellon, former US president John F Kennedy and actress Glenn Close.

Whilst at Choate, Candace excelled academically and in sports. She was a member of the varsity softball team during each of her four years, captain of the team in 2012 and 2013, and winner of the 2012 Excellence in Softball award, as well as being selected for the New England All Star team.

She was a two-year letter winner in volleyball, recipient of the Excellence in Volleyball Award 2012 and captain of the team in her senior year when they won the New England Championships. Candace was also a member of the varsity basketball team for three years.

Candace was elected Class President for her senior year, which bestowed upon her the honour of giving the address on behalf of her class at their commencement ceremonies in June 2013.

Sharing the stage with Saturday Night Live comedian Seth Meyers, who gave the commencement address, Candace shared 10 life lessons learned at Choate with her classmates, which ranged from the importance of being a team player to the challenge to always take the path less travelled, “unless you’re lost in the woods – then take the path with the most footsteps!”

Candace was a three-time member of the Dean’s List; the recipient of the 2013 Class of 1976 Leadership Award given to the sixth form girl who has held elective office and has demonstrated strong leadership qualities in carrying out the full range of her responsibilities; and the 2013 Caroline Ruutz-Rees Award for the greatest contribution to athletics in the sixth form.

Candace is matriculating at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, where she had been enrolled since August 2013 as a Biology major.

She tried out for the softball team as a “walk-on” and has been accepted as a member of the Division 1 Varsity team, where she will play first base.
