BOWLING

FINANCIAL LEAGUE

THE top player in Financial Bowling League competition on Wednesday night was Stan Bethel of the Strike Force, who toppled the pins for a 222 second high game and a 641 high three game set. Bethel was followed by Kevin B Williams also of the Strike Force Team with a 233 high game and a 612 second high set.

The ladies were led by a 471 high three game set from Betsy Taylor of Sunshine Insurance. Angie Smith of Moonlight Strikers earned the ladies’ runner-up MVP award with a 171 second high game and a 448 second high set. The high game award went to Xynea Johnson of Fidelity Bulldogs, who rolled down the pins for a 179 game.

BAISS ACTION

Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools began its 2013 basketball season on Wednesday. St Augustine’s College Big Red Machine junior girls blasted Jordan Prince Williams Falcons 27-11 and Big Red Machine’s senior boys routed the Falcons 58-21.

BOXING

MAKING OF A CHAMPION

CHAMPIONS Promotions, headed by professional boxer Elkeana Saunders, is scheduled to hold its first amateur boxing show under the theme “The Making of a Champion” 7pm Saturday at the Kendal Isaacs Gym.

The Eastside Boxing Club, the Southside Marlins, the Southside Karate Dojo and the Champion Amateur Boxing Club are all expected to participate. The organisers will also be making a surprise presentation to someone who has made an invaluable contribution to the sport of boxing in the Bahamas.

NPSA FUN NIGHT

THE New Providence Softball Association is slated to hold a Let’s Talk Softball and Fun Night 7pm Friday, November 29 at the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

“We are inviting all teams, sponsors, managers, coaches and players to attend this most interesting event,” said president Godfrey ‘Gully’ Burnside.

Free drinks and food will be provided.

The event is all set to begin at 7pm with Burnside bringing all persons up to date on the latest developments in softball. That will be followed by the party in the park.

THE Free National Movement’s (FNM) Golden Isles Constituency Association is scheduled to stage its second annual Charles Maynard Fun Walk 6am Saturday at the Bacardi Park on Carmichael Road.

RUTHERFORD

CELEBRATE BIRTHDAY

ON Saturday, November 23, Frank Rutherford will be celebrating his 49th birthday. Rutherford is the country’s first Olympic track and field medallist, having won a bronze in the men’s triple jump in Barcelona, Spain, in 1992. He currently resides in Houston, Texas, where he operates a successful Elite Programme for High School students and is a trainer for a number of professional athletes.

EBL REGISTRATION

THE Eleuthera Junior Baseball League of Rock Sound is all set to hold its 2014 registration day at the Primary School Baseball Park 10am to 4pm on Saturday. All interested parents are asked to bring their children to meet the coaches and pick up registration forms for the upcoming season. The league will also register girls between the ages of 12 and 17 to start a softball league during the baseball season.

The season is scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 8, 2014.

President Larry Forbes is inviting all other settlements to organise teams and enter the league for the 2014 season with boys’ baseball or girls’ softball teams. Interested persons may contact the president on Saturday at the park during the registration period.

CROSS COUNTRY

IN just three short years, the St John’s College Giants have established the SJC/TWD Athletics cross-country meet as one of the premier cross-country competitions during the season.

The competition is co-hosted with former SJC alumna and Olympian Tonique Williams.

The competition,is scheduled to begin noon Saturday, November 23 at Fort Charlotte.

For schools, clubs, individuals and organisations who wish to register, they can call or visit the main office of SJC before Friday, November 22.

REGISTRATION

THE Junior Baseball League of Nassau completed its registration and draft process for the 2014 season. The season is slated to begin on January 18 as the JBLN celebrates 25 years as the premier youth baseball and softball organisation in the Bahamas.

The 2014 season will feature a record number of 475 boys and girls and 39 teams playing organised baseball and softball. Visit their new website www.jblnbaseball.com for further details.

HOTROD

TURKEY RUN

THE Bahamas Hot Rod Association is all set to hold its first Turkey Run on Sunday, December 1 at the newly constructed Bahamas International Raceway in the Queen Elizabeth Sporting Complex.

There will be racing and a show and shine starting at 1:30pm.

Racing is slated to begin at 2:30pm.

All cars, trucks, motorcycles and even boats are invited to be a part of the show and competition.
