Two New Anglican Canons to be installed

The Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands will have two new Canons this Sunday afternoon, following the installations of the Reverend Fathers Norman Danswell Lightbourne and Peter Andrew Gordon Scott into the stalls of St George and St Patrick respectively.

Sunday is Advent Sunday, the beginning of the Church’s New Year, and Anglicans from throughout New Providence and the Family Islands will gather at Christ Church Cathedral, George Street, at 5pm, for a service which will take the form of Evensong, Lay Witness Talks and the Installation of the two new Canons.

The Right Reverend Laish Zane Boyd will preside and along with the Very Dean Patrick Adderley, he will install the Canons. The Reverend Canon Crosley Walkine will serve as the Officiant. The Lay Witness talks will be done by Dr Ricardo Crawford, Priest Warden at the Parish of St Ambrose, New Providence, and Hope Curry, People’s Warden, St Anne’s Parish, New Providence.

The music will be provided by the combined choirs of the parishes of Holy Cross and Holy Spirit, under the directorship of Calpurnia Spence, accompanied by Roosevelt Forbes and Angeline Forbes.

Father Lightbourne, a priest since 1984, is currently the Rector of Holy Cross Parish, Highbury Park, New Providence. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology from Codrington College, Barbados, and has served in other parishes throughout the Diocese including St John’s, Harbour Island, St Stephen’s, Andros, St Nicholas & St Michael & All Angels, Christ the King, Freeport, Grand Bahama, St Mary Magdalene, West End and Church of The Good Shepherd.

He was born in South Caicos, Turks and Caicos Islands, and received his early education there at the South Caicos Primary School and at the Pierson High School before attending the Hawksbill Evening Institute.

The Reverend Peter Scott is the Rector of Holy Spirit, Chippingham, New Providence. He was ordained a priest on June 28, 1985, and has served in the parishes of St Barnabas, New Providence, St Peter’s, Long Island, St Margaret’s, North Andros, Holy Cross, New Providence, St Matthew’s, New Providence and St Christopher’s, Lyford Cay.

Father Scott was born in Nassau and received his early education at Christ Church Cathedral Day School and the Government High School.

He holds a Licentiate in Theology and a Diploma in Pastoral Studies from Codrington College, and Master’s Degree in Education from the College of The Bahamas/Kent University.
