THE Bahamas Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) has restored its landline, internet and cellular services to the Northern Bahamas and to the Mars Bay area of South Andros.

The news comes a day after the corporation said the disruption of its services in Andros was caused by “gun shooting pigeon hunters” whose shots were fired through an important fibre optic cable.

Early yesterday morning BTC described its services in the Northern Bahamas as “patchy” because of repairs being done to the badly damaged Bahamas Domestic Submarine Network International Cable after an incorrectly anchoured freighter in 8 Mile Rock Harbour on September 16th damaged the vital telecommunications link.

To mend the cable, a specialised cable repair ship worked with workers of the corporation.

“BTC apologises for the disruption and reminds the public to report vandalism of any kind including coppery theft to the police as it is a felony and further, these acts disrupts their telecommunications service,” the corporation said in a press statement.
