'Rassin Foundation' to raise money for medical scholarships

Hundreds of young Bahamians have realized their dreams of becoming healthcare professionals thanks to the financial support provided by the Doctors Hospital Dr Meyer Rassin Foundation.

The foundation’s scholarship fund helps cover the high cost of achieving higher levels of education. This year’s fundraiser is scheduled for October 16 at noon.

“Events like this fashion show and luncheon are what make it possible for the Dr Meyer Rassin Foundation to continue providing necessary scholarships for Bahamians pursuing higher education in all areas of healthcare. An event such as this lets all members of the public come up and help us while having fun and really enjoying themselves and their friends,” said Barry Rassin, president of Doctors Hospital Health System. This year, in addition to the fashion show hosted by longstanding partner Rubin’s, a number of local artists and artisans have come on board.

The Rubin’s models walking the runway this year will be wearing the new exclusive fall collection by Kamali Kulture, Anne Klein, Maggy London and other hot designer labels.

Those attending the exclusive luncheon will also have a chance to participate in an art auction featuring the works of Stan Burnside and Judson Picot Eneas. Danella Bain will also be there selling one of a kind handmade jewellery.

Guests will dine on exquisite dishes like mixed baby greens and romaine with roasted beets, caramelized walnuts, purple onions and creamy feta dressing; chicken breast stuffed with broccoli and provolone with a sherry Dijon sauce, roasted potatoes and sauted green beans or pan seared snapper with cherry tomatoes, capers, lemon butter sauce and seasonal vegetables; and for dessert, cookies and cream brownies with mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Throughout the afternoon, guests will have a chance to win prizes, including a 3-night stay for 5 at the Schooner Bay Village, South Abaco. There will also be a raffle with great prizes.

“It’s such a great experience to be able to meet the young people we help each year when we hand out the scholarship cheques. And the truth is, we really couldn’t do it without the help of our corporate sponsors like Rubins and Bahama Islands Info who came on board this year to help promote the event,” said Mr Rassin.

“And of course, none of these efforts would work without the participation and support of those who join us at these fundraising events. We’re looking forward to a fun event filled with great food, fashion and artwork as well as the good feeling all around of knowing that you’ve helped make a difference in someone else’s life,” he said.

Since 1999, the Doctor Hospital Dr Meyer Rassin Foundation has provided over $300,000 in scholarships to students pursuing higher education related to medicine and health care. From medical laboratory technology, to clinical psychology, pharmaceutical science and nursing, the toundation contributes as much as financially possible to the bright future of qualified applicants, giving them the opportunity to help make health care in the Bahamas shine.
