A COUPLE were arraigned in the magistrates’ court yesterday facing a manslaughter charge in connection with the death of their child.

Wenzil Johnson, 57, of Garden Hills and Faye Williams, 47, of Lobster Avenue appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Joyanne Ferguson-Pratt facing a charge of manslaughter by negligence allegedly committed on September 23.

It was claimed that the pair negligently caused the death of Juliette Johnson.

They were not required to enter a plea to the charge due to its nature.

Their attorney, Heather Hunt, asked the court to consider granting her clients bail as they await trial in the Supreme Court.

The magistrate, having checked the Bail Act to see if she had the jurisdiction to do so, granted them each $15,000 bail with two suretors and reporting conditions.

Johnson and Williams must report to the East Street South police station every Tuesday and Thursday on or before 6pm.

A Voluntary Bill of Indictment is scheduled to be served to them on January 15, 2014 to fast-track the case to the higher court.
