Workshop for small business unveiled

The Government is aiming to stimulate the economy through enhancing the climate for sustainable small and medium-sized (SME) businesses.

A business workshop was held on October 5 at the Cleveland Eneas Primary School, at which Pinewood constituents received advice to enhance their businesses. Mark Turnquest said this was the first of many constituencies that will receive the benefits of his business consultancy.

“I am a small business consultant that has been advocating for an SME Act and SME Development Agency for the past 10 years,” MR Turnquest said.

“We (SME owners) are now very close to receiving national and international funding, and the necessary business support systems, that will make our businesses sustainable, viable and profitable well into the future,”

Mr Turnquest, who is also a consultant to the Ministry of Finance, said that as part of this process, the Government, with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank and Compete Caribbean, has contracted EPS Consultants to conduct a Needs Assessment Survey of the major issues that SMEs are confronted with on a daily basis.

“The Government of the Bahamas has hired me, along with six other consultants, to work along with EPS Company to survey the SME market to determine various needs, so that they can be immediately addressed in an effective and efficient manner,” said Mr Turnquest.

Mr Turnquest’s class at Cleveland Eneas School in Pinewood starts every Saturday morning at 9am.
