A MAN scheduled to stand trial yesterday for attempted murder was granted $15,000 bail after the trial did not start because key witnesses did not show up.

However, as a condition for his bail, Kevin Brown will be electronically monitored in addition to having two suretors.

Brown is accused of the August 12, 2012 attempted murder of Cordero Smith and was expected to stand trial before Justice Carolita Bethell yesterday.

He is defended by Krysta Mason-Smith.

Only three of 13 prosecution witnesses appeared for the proceedings yesterday. Among those missing was the alleged victim.

Yesterday afternoon, the prosecution was asked by the judge to report on why their witnesses were not present.

The prosecution told the judge that in addition two a civilian witness changing addresses, one of the police witnesses was stationed in Harbour Island, one officer was running late and two other officers, including the investigator, could not be found.

The issue of bail then arose after the defence requested that the matter be dismissed.

The Crown withdrew their initial objection to bail and the court granted Brown $15,000 bail with reporting conditions and ordered him to be electronically monitored.

Justice Bethell then adjourned the matter to November 5.

Eucal Bonaby and Anishka Hanchell appeared for the Crown.
