Church groups participate in king of the grill test

Hundreds of persons flocked to Saint James Anglican Parish, Adelaide Village on October 14 to attend the eight annual Father R.F. Anthony Roberts’ King of the Grill Fest.

Despite of the rain, participants still supported the event, which was sponsored by the Anglican Church Men of Saint James Anglican. It was the vision of the late Father R.F. Anthony Roberts to bring the men of Saint James closer through cooking. Father Roberts himself was a avid cooker. However, before this could become a reality Father Roberts passed away. The men of Saint James did not want to the idea to die. They organised it and invited the other ACM Branches to compete and see who was the best.

The purpose behind the event is fellowship and fundraising. All money raised will go to the church, the community and charitable organisations.

The highlight of the day was the cooking competition between the various ACM branches in New Providence. This year the following churches competed for the Father R.F. Anthony Roberts’ Floating Trophy: Saint Gregory’s, Saint Agnes, Saint James, Saint George’s, Holy Trinity, Saint Ambrose and Holy Cross. When the dust cleared Saint Agnes emerged victorious defeating two time winners Saint George’s.

The following are the results: Saint Agnes 354.5; Saint George’s 345; Saint Ambrose 339.5; Holy Cross 335.5; Holy Trinity 316; Saint James 302.5; Saint Gregory’s 281.

The fest came to an end with a Junkanoo Rush by the Prodigal Sons.

The officers and members of Saint James’ ACW would like to thank all who supported the event and look forward to seeing everyone next year on October 13, 2014.
