Church to host 'Dilly Tree Festival' in the valley

Parishioners, family and friends of St. George’s Anglican Church will kick off the celebration of their 65th Anniversary of Dedication with its first Dilly Tree Festival.

“The festival has been designed to take us back to our roots,” said Adrian Archer, the church’s parish administrator.

“Most people are unaware that the history of our church shows that we began under a Sapodilla Tree. In fact the dilly tree still stands 65 years later, in the front of the church and still serves as a haven, a shelter and the gathering spot for members of the parish,” he said.

The Dilly Tree Festival will feature the old time “Home Cookery” stall featuring down home dishes of chicken, fish and ribs.

“We’ll also have our famous Conch Fritters, Snow Cones, Cakes and Pastries, Hot Dogs and Hamburgers, Hoop-la and other interesting things,” said Mr Archer.

The Dilly Tree Festival is one of four events during the month of October in which the parish will recognise its 65th Anniversary of Dedication.

“The other three events include a pontifical mass which takes place on Wednesday October 23rd at 6:00 AM, the actual day of dedication, the Dedication Mission services which will be held on Monday and Tuesday, October 28 and 29 (conducted by Fr. Whitfield Hutcheson) and the dedication service which will take place on Wednesday, October 30 at 7:30 AM.” said Mr Archer
