Ravens, Predators are new champs

The 4th annual Bahamas Flag Football League postseason invitational tournament saw two new champions crowned at the Winton Rugby Field during the National Heroes Day holiday.

In the women’s final, an interception returned for a touchdown by Dyaria Knowles propelled the Sports Center/Heatwave Surf and Swim Ravens to a 7-6 win over the Eagles out of Grand Bahama.

Disha Frasher added the successful one-point conversion which proved to be the difference in the game.

With the Eagles less than 10 yards away from a go-ahead score late in the second half, Tuesday White forced a turnover with an interception to seal the win for the Ravens.

Knowles was named the MVP of the championship.

After dropping their opener, the Ravens reeled off four consecutive wins en route to the title, in their first tournament appearance.

The club completed a successful first season, which saw them reach the BFFL semifinals and during the regular season, handed the BWF Pink Foxes their only loss of the past two years.

In the men’s final, the Finlandia Predators won their second postseason tournament with a 20-10 win over the defending champion Frecon Alliance out of Grand Bahama.

Ishmail Sutherland was named championship game MVP.

The Predators finished the tournament at 4-0.

They previosuly won the GBFFL Invitational tournament in August where they went 5-0 and reached the BFFL semifinals during the season.
