ROLLE NAMED PLAYER

OF THE WEEK

WALTIEA Rolle was named ZBL Player of the Week on Eurobasket.com. In what was by far her most successful game so far this season, Rolle was given the honour after DS Karlin defeated Kara Trutnov 81-74 for the win.

Playing a total of 38 minutes and five seconds, she led her team with 22 points, 15 rebounds, one block and an assist. This is the second win for DSK, as they look to break the six-game losing streak they suffered early in the season. There next game is slated for October 19 vs Praha - presently in 7th position with a 4-4 record.

BASKETBALL

NPBA PRE-SEASON

THE New Providence Basketball Association continued its pre-season basketball tournament at the AF Adderley Gymnasium Wednesday night.

The Mailboat Cybots beat the RBDF Marines 54-40 and the PJ Conquering Stingers prevailed with a 70-45 decision over the Y-Care Wreckers.

Cybots 54, Mariners 40

David Taylor scored a game high 12 points and Eugene Bain had eight with six rebounds, while Ernest Saunders chipped in with seven for the Mailboat. In the loss, Delvonne Duncombe had nine points and both Blair Allen and Kenrio Ingraham had eight and Durchen Sands seven.

Stingers 70, Wreckers 45

Able Joseph exploded for a game high 20 points with 10 rebounds, Randy Williams had 14 points, Devon Ferguson 12 and Santino Morley nine in the win for the Stingers. For Y-Care, Justin Swaby and Kenzitte Munnings both had nine points, Danny McKenzie eight and Kevin Armstrong seven in the loss.

The NPBA is scheduled to be back in action this weekend with the following games:

FINANCIAL BOWLING LEAGUE

THE top player in the Financial Bowling League competition on Wednesday night was Xynea Johnson of Fidelity Bulldogs, who led both the male and female divisions with a 246 high game and a 601 high three game set.

The ladies runner-up MVP of the evening was Joy Lockhart of BTC with a 514 three game set. Petrina Cartwright of Sunshine Insurance toppled the pins for the

ladies second high game of 193.

The men were led by a 218 high game and an outstanding 586 high three game set from Phillip Davis of Moonlight Strikers. Kevin B Williams of Strike Force collected the men’s runner-up MVP award with a 582 set. Alfred Burrows of BTC collected the men’s second high game award after dropping the pins for a 213 game.

Team scores of the evening were: Moonlight Strikers 3, Rubis Oil Stars 0, Sunshine Insurance 3, Forsythe Commincations 0, Fidelity Bulldogs 3, Price Waterhouse Coopers 0, BTC 2 1/2, Strike Force 1/2, Deliotte & Touche 2, Leno Corporate Services 1.

GSSSA ACTION

THE Government Secondary Schools Sports Association continued its regular season action at the Anatol Rodgers High School Gymnasium on Wednesday.

The following results were posted:

CI Gibson Lady Rattlers def. CC Sweeting Cobras in two straight sets, 21-20 and 19-13. In the senior game, the Cobras returned the favour to win 2-1, 19-14, 15-19 and 15-10.

SOFTBALL

EXUMA SOFTBALL

THE third and deciding game of the Exuma Softball Association men’s championship series is all set to be played 7:30pm Saturday in Exuma.

The Pressure Hot Batters and the Police Crimestoppers are tied at 1-1 in the series. The winner will go on to represent the league in the Bahamas Softball Federation’s National Round Robin Tournament slated for October 31 to November 3 at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.
