No money for Government House receptions?

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Did we hear correctly that there was no money for any further receptions at Government House?

Hence there were no budgetary funds available to host the usual reception for the newly appointed FNM senator. The FNM organisation was asked to bear the cost of refreshments.

So who funded the reception on the date of the signing of new names for holidays – January 10, the date when the PLP won its election, and the renaming of Discovery Day.

Does this mean something – that things are done according to dictates of one person?

The question still remains unanswered as to why the former Prime Minister was not allowed to give his speech as was agreed between the parties in the House.

What does this say for democracy in The Bahamas? Does it exist? And Why are Bahamians so silent on important matters?
