Joyann Ferguson-Pratt confirmed as Chief Magistrate

JOYANN Ferguson-Pratt was confirmed as Chief Magistrate yesterday.

Chief Justice Sir Michael Barnett announced that the Governor General acting on the recommendation of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission appointed Mrs Ferguson-Pratt to the post of Chief Magistrate.

Mrs Ferguson-Pratt, who was appointed to act in July 2013, was called to The Bahamas Bar on February 5, 1988.

She served in the Office of The Attorney General until February 21, 2011 when she was transferred to the Magistracy to serve as a magistrate.

Sir Michael said that was pleased with the appointment, saying: “Mrs Ferguson-Pratt will provide strong leadership as we seek to make the magistrates’ court system more responsive to the needs of The Bahamas.”

Mrs Ferguson-Pratt is married to Matthian Pratt and they have three children.
