Police seize ten firearms

Police staged several successful operations this weekend, with more than 100 motorists cited for traffic vocations, and ten firearms taken off the street. At least seven people were arrested for various criminal offenses.

Police credited “great support from the public and excellent police work” for the confiscation of ten illegal firearms in separate incidences over the weekend.

In the first incident, around 6:00pm, officers from the Firearms Tracing and Investigations Unit, acting on intelligence, went to the Apple area, where they uncovered a handgun. No arrest was made in this matter.

In the second incident, around 7:00pm, officers from the Firearms Tracing and Investigations Unit, acting on intelligence, went to the Peardale area, where they uncovered a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition. No arrest was made in this matter.

In the third incident, around 11:22pm, officers from the Mobile Division, acting on intelligence, went to Williams Lane near Kemp Road, where they uncovered a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition. No arrest was made in this matter.

Additionally, around 4:57pm, officers from the Mobile Division, acting on intelligence, went to the Baillou Hill Road area, where they uncovered a large quantity of ammunition. No arrest was made in this matter

However, two men ages 21 and 20 years were arrested after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Saturday.

According to reports, around 1:45am, officers from the Selective Enforcement Team were on patrol in the Claridge Road area, where they observed the two men acting suspiciously. The officers conducted a search of the men and found a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition in their possession. The two men were then taken into custody.

In addition, officers of the Northeastern Division officers conducted an operation on Saturday in which five persons were arrested for various criminal offenses and 38 drivers were cited for various traffic violations.

This followed an operation on Friday by officers of the Northeastern and Southeastern Division where 76 drivers were cited for various traffic violations within the Northeastern Division and 58 drivers were cited for various traffic violations within the Southeastern Division.

Additionally, one drug arrest was made.

In other crime news wanted suspect Avon Higgs turned himself into officers at the Central Detective Unit (CDU) on Friday 18th October 2013.

Higgs who was accompanied by an attorney is wanted by Detectives at CDU for questioning reference to fraud.

Police are requesting the public’s assistance in solving a shooting incident that has left a man detained in hospital.

According to reports, shortly after 12:00 midnight, the victim was standing on Cordeaux Avenue with a group of men, when he was shot to the body.

The victim was taken to hospital via private vehicle where he is detained in stable condition.

Ok so now lets that these people go to the gun court in short order and get their day.
