Man shot in attempted armed robbery

FREEPORT – A man was shot at a local establishment in the Freeport area during an attempted armed robbery early Monday morning.

The male victim, aged 63, was transported to the Rand Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment following the shooting.

According to reports, sometime around 1.45am two masked armed men approached the victim and a 55-year-old woman while at a business establishment on the Mall and Poinciana Drive.

The gunmen demanded cash. The male victim put up a struggle and was shot in the abdomen. The suspects fled empty-handed.

The gunmen were described as about 5’ 7” tall of slim build and wearing dark clothing.

Investigations are continuing into the matter. Anyone with information that can assist the police is asked to call at 911, 919, 350-3106/350-3107.
