When is something a state secret?

EDITOR, The Tribune.

When is something a state secret, seems to be when it is a BEST Commission document, and quite evidently the reason and rationale for BEST, was to allow for and give account of public comment as to the development or impact on the environment but, no, no, no when it comes to the Best Commission today.

If they have published the EIA reports on even the Airport Gateway Road, just why can Dr. Weech refuse to make the EIA report by Ocean Consulting of Miami public, about the proposed mooring pier in Bimini?

When government or its agency refuses in this manner, it is reasonably obvious they do not wish us to read something that is contained in the document.

If there was no negative comment why hide the report?

This constant approach of hide-and-seek irritates the public, and makes a total mockery of transparency, which I recall was the PLP’s battle cry prior to election 2012.

The Attorney General needs to be instructed to write the Regulations for the already passed Freedom Of Information Act and implement what is such a natural to good governance immediately – if Mr. Christie refuses then he casts his own stone.

For the BEST Commission to respond in the manner they have, is totally beyond any sense of propriety and sense, and makes as I have said a mockery of governance.

Flies never light on fish that is
off.
