Motorcyclist dies in traffic accident

FREEPORT – A 22-year-old motorcyclist died from injuries sustained in an accident on Tuesday morning, pushing the traffic fatality count for Grand Bahama this year to 11.

The accident occurred at around 9.45am on the Queens Highway in Eight Mile Rock.

Inspector Terecita Pinder said police received reports that a 2002 Nissan Maxima and a black and blue Yamaha motorcycle were involved in a traffic accident in the EMR area.

The driver of the Nissan Maxima was travelling west on Queens Highway in the area of Pine Forest.

The motorcycle, which was being ridden by a male resident of Holmes Rock, was travelling in the same direction when it collided into the rear of the vehicle.

The male victim was transported by EMS personnel to the Rand Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

There was some damage to the Nissan Maxima, however, the driver was not injured.
