Anger over trash at Montagu boat ramp

THIS photograph, posted online and sent to The Tribune, shows a large heap of trash piled in the parking lot of the Montagu boat ramp earlier this week.

Graham Weatherford, who posted the image, tagged it: “The New Montagu No Bathroom No fresh Water NEW DUMP...”

Another person who contacted The Tribune criticised those responsible for the mess, writing: “Montagu Boat ramp... do something good for them and build them a nice work environment and parking facilities, and they dump all over you.”

Earlier this week, FNM leader Hubert Minnis hit out at the government for failing to co-ordinate proper garbage collection services while a concerned citizen told The Tribune garbage had not been collected in her area in weeks.

When contacted about the state of the ramp, Montagu MP Richard Lightbourn said garbage collection is a problem that is not isolated to Montagu.

He said he has complained to the government about the problem several times in the past, having personally received complaints from his constituents.

“Garbage is such a problem everywhere – the cleanliness of not just the constituency but the whole island. The place is filthy,” he said.

“I was made aware of that specific issue (the Montagu ramp) today, but I’ve been writing and calling with regards to garbage collection, generally, throughout the constituency. So many areas have been neglected.”

Its so strange , you will condone us beating the crap out of detainees and call anyone that questions it names ,but get all upset about the government not putting a dumpster at Montague .As much as you bring up Montague you are one of those blair boys that never liked black people selling fish there .As much as you brought up how the cuban protesters hate black Bahamians , I thought you were the white incarnation of MLK , until it comes to people of a different hue selling fish in your "hood " Remember all the vile names you called the fish vendors on another post ..

Sorry concerned, you are wrong on this one. It een about black people selling fish on da ramp. It was nasty place then, and it still is. It stunk to high heaven. I went there once or twice to buy fish and stone crab, and I got sick from lack of refrigeration. And there would always be lowlifes hanging around that made me look over my shoulder and at my car to see if anyone was breaking in. Not only did I get pick pocketed there, but the lady selling fish out of a huge Ford 150 (the red one) gave me fake currency as well. They tried to make it into a venue like the straw market by fixing it up, and the folks just kept their nasty habits.

YOU RIGHT ,we are nasty ,,soon the straw market will be dirty ..i remember one year i had to go to immigration on Hawkins hill alot ,,i saw the same KFC box in the stairwell corner for 3 months ..My thing w/ @Rory is he can talk about machette wielding , nasty criminals at montague but, can,t fathom that we beat the living crap out of detainees . Does he think the RBDF imports Tebitan monks to guard the detainees ,Some of the Marines came from the same family structure and "urban " areas these fisherman came from ...The RBDF doesn,t hire based on attitude and ability ,it is jobs for votes in certain inner city areas .

These Nasty MF's who think they're entitled to degrade our Bahama Land and bring their Nasty habits to our beautiful shores should be banished to another shore where they can live a life of nastiness. I'll be willing to bet their homes are they same way. The government needs to hand them a chain and ball and let them sit there in their filth.

Huh...I was just at Montague on Sunday and funny enough every single person I spoke to was Bahamian...I interacted with 6 vendors all Bahamian...long before we had this massive immigration problem we had problems with people throwing garbage haphazardly on any undeveloped lot, derelict vehicles, throwing bottles and food trash out of moving cars. Potters Cay has been filthy since I knew it....Lets fix the beam in our own eye before we point out the mote in someone else's.

Back when they worked just the boat ramp, all that trash never accumulated...you give them more space, they fill it with trash and I am sure will get up all in your face saying...'Well you all need to fix dis and dat...it ain' my problem!'
Boils my blood!!

As of Saturday, September 7th it ooks like that area is being developed as a 'green space' or park of some sort. Grass in place and some of those wooden benches made from discarded trees.Good idea, but a distance away from the actual water/beach area so I don't know who will be going over there to sit in the shade. Hope it doesn't become a vagrant hang-out.

Maybe if they had a bin to put the trash in and regular collection...

Maybe they should be MADE to pay to have a dumpster on site since they getting the place for free.

Then all the citizens in Blair and eastern road would drop their garbage off on the way to work. Does anyone remember the garbage bins placed on the stretches of beach out east? Those bins used to be flowing over with huge garbage bags and flies for days, when the bins got full, people would just stack their garbage next to it. I actually heard a manager at work tell a coworker to just drop off her week's uncollected garbage at the beach...what upside down thinking. Destroying the one thing that really makes us, us.

Someone at ministry of environmental health needs to do a better job. The PM needs to get the whole team coordinated. This past year has been a nightmare, no wonder he's tired.

looking at those photos, its just nastiness on their behalf, they could have secured it better than that if they knew no truck was coming, just an excuse to be nasty, they make a lot of money out there,it is their workplace, they could have gotten together and do something ,but everybody has a don't care attitude then they quick to blame someone else, clean it up!half of those debris can be bagged and stored properly for whenever the truck arrives.
