ONE team was dominant all season, the other hit an incredible win streak at the right time, and now the two meet to decide The Bahamas Government Departmental Basketball Association title.

Game one between the Tronicquest Cybots and Police Royals is all set for 8pm tonight at the DW Davis Gymnasium.

The Cybots claimed a share of the regular season pennant with an 11-1 record and have yet to lose a game in two playoff series thus far.

Led by double-double machine Eugene Bain and lead guard Brian Bain, the Cybots have been blowing out opponents in the playoffs, winning by an average margin of nearly 18 points per game.

Eugene finished third in the league with 27 points per game and second at 12.2 points per game, while Brian was third in the league in assists at 6.2 per game. They completed a two-game sweep of the BEC Shockers after a 101-86 route in game one and a 78-56 win in game two.

In the semifinals, they defeated the Police Crimestoppers in a two-game sweep - an 86-79 series opening win and a 27-point blowout in game two, 86-59.

The Cybots’ roster also boasts other players near the top of the league’s statistical standings with Adorn Charlow, the league leading rebounder at 13.8 per game and sharpshooting Georgio Walkes, the league leader in free throws (93 per cent) and three point percentage (39.5 per cent). Silas Cooper was third in field goal percentage at 72 per cent.

The Royals had a different path to the playoffs after finishing the season in fourth place with an 8-4 record. They unseeded two higher ranked teams in their path to the finals in a pair of three game series.

In the first round, they eliminated the third ranked Airport Authority who finished the season at 9-3. They took game one 126-118, before the Airport Authority evened the series in game two with a 91-86 win. The Royals advanced with a 113-100 win in game three.

In the semifinals they faced the 12-1 Defence Force Marines and pulled off the upset in three games. A closely contested game one saw the Royals come out on top 110-105, followed by a 15-point win for the Marines in game two, 82-67. In game three, the Royals were able to advance with a 95-79 win.

The Royals are led by the versatile Dion McPhee who averaged 24 points (fourth in the league), 10.5 rebounds (fifth) and 4.5 assists (fifth) per game.

In the only regular season matchup between the two teams, the Cybots won 91-84 early in the season on July 29.

Game two is slated for Wednesday, game three September 20, game four (if necessary) September 21 and game five (if necessary) September 23. All games start at 8pm.

Regular season BGDBA statistical leaders included Mark Hanna, the scoring leader at 35.6 per game and Freddie Lightbourne led the league in assists at seven per game.
