PHASE ONE of the Renovate Your Life Retreat by Bahamian life coach Kaylus Adams was a renewing experience for those in attendance, providing a jump start on redirecting their lives.

Ms Adams designed the event to provide women with guidance, structure and inspiration to live a fulfilled life.

The first of three sessions took place at Doongalik Studios on Saturday. The second phase of the retreat will be held next month.

Ms Adams started the renovation process on her own life back in September 2000 shortly after resigning as a hospitality and tourism lecturer at the Bahamas Hotel Training College. She took a sabbatical from her normal routine to attend a coaching retreat. The three day experience was facilitated by best selling author, speaker and coach Laurie Beth Jones.

“I knew that something was missing in my life but just could not put my finger on exactly what it was. By trial and error I knew that what I was yearning for was not found in a job, money, things, relationships with others nor social status.

“I got what I wanted. I was introduced to the guide post that pointed me in the direction that merged who I am (my character), what I value, feel passionate about, and what I did with my time and skills that is considered as work. For the first time in my life I got quiet; I visualised my ideal life then documented it as descriptively as possible, filled with sights, sounds and feeling. What I visualised looked nothing like my past; did not resemble the present and was polar opposite to the path that I was on,” she told Tribune Woman.

Two years later, Ms Adams resigned from the healthcare industry to follow her ideal path, the one she “recurrently dreamt about”.

“Today I am living that ideal life that I wrote about 13 years ago in San Diego. The transition was not easy nor was it hard, uncomfortable yes. Would I go through it again, absolutely.”

Ms Adams said she lives a renovated life today and wants to help other women do the same.

“I live in freedom, with joy, peace and fulfilment. This retreat was organised to give other women who are living lives as I was to be able to sit, redefine, reorganise, refresh and redecorate their lives with what truly ignites and inspires them to be at their best and highest.

“From personal experience many people know that renovating a space at work or at home is not typically an overnight process. It usually requires intervals to work, inspect and reveal. Renovating one’s life requires the same time to visual and define, plan, take action, evaluate, acknowledge and celebrate. Renovating one’s life is very similar, requiring time to get clear on what you want, and to transition toward the outcome you want to realize and the results you want to achieve,” she said.

Coaching For Life and Business was established by Ms Adams in September 2002 and offers realignment coaching workshops and consultations to help business owners, executives and teams change, reinforce procedures to increase performance, market presence, profit and productivity.

The ongoing workshop will continue guiding women through three phases of growth: redesign, renovate and reveal. Ms Adams will lead attendees through “fun, engaging self-discovery exercises” and provide them with self-assessment tools.
