Chamber appoints new Institute head

The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation (BCCEC) has appointed Keshelle Kerr as the new executive director of the Chamber Institute.

Ms Kerr previously held the position of chief executive at The Training Authority, an independent corporate training entity focused on productivity, Microsoft Office and business skills training.

She is also a speaker and advocate for financial literacy, wealth creation and entrepreneurship education among young people and women in business through her activities as founder and president of Creative Wealth Bahamas.

Ms Kerr will be responsible for driving the vision, mission and growth of the Institute. She this year became one of the youngest women to be elected to the BCCEC’s Board of Directors, and was appointed head of the public relations committee.

She began her involvement as a founding member of the Organisation of Young Professionals (OYP), a division of the BCCEC, and later joined the educational committee.

“I am delighted to welcome Keshelle to the executive management team at the BCCEC and look forward to contributions in advancing the initiatives on the Chamber Institute”, said Chester Cooper, BCCEC chairman.

“I’m most humbled for the vote of confidence by the leaders of the Chamber to have me fill this role,” said Ms Kerr.

“I’m also excited to bring a new level of energy, experience and elevation to the wonderful members of BCCEC and business community to educate, train and develop their employees.

“We are exceptionally pleased to have Keshelle leading the Chamber Institute into our new era of E-learning and certification courses. We are most fortunate to have someone as skilled as Keshelle to manage the growth of such an important division of the BCCEC”, added Robert Myers, founder and chairman of the Chamber Institute.

Edison Sumner, the BCCECs chief executive, added: “Keshelle comes on board not only as an executive director but as a member who has reaped the benefits from participating with us, and also a contributor who has provided her vast experience to others.

“We look forward to the new and exciting programmes and initiatives Keshelle has planned in her new role Despite her youth, with almost a decade’s experience and education in the training and development industry, and a proven track record of success, Keshelle has the talent and passion to drive this gro.”

The Chamber Institute (CI) is a division of the BCCEC, and provides four specific training programmes to its members and the broader business community.

These are career development, business development, online training and industry specific certification programmes.

These four sectors embody all aspects of educational development that will be of value to the business community. Programmes are offered on a continual basis throughout the year using any number of Chamber Institute-approved qualified facilitators offering Chamber Institute approved programmes.
