BUT is planning to file charges against school security guard

BAHAMAS Union of Teachers president Belinda Wilson yesterday confirmed that the union planned to file charges against a security guard at Stephen Dillet Primary.

Ms Wilson said she filed a police report after she was pushed by a guard in an attempt to restrict her movement on the campus on Thursday.

She said: “No security officer has the authority to put his hands on me. As an individual first of all, secondly as a Bahamian, and thirdly as the president of the union, who should have unfettered access to any workplace, at any time, where our members are, especially when it is not hostile.”

On Thursday, Ms Wilson she was sitting with teachers outside Stephen Dillet, but later left to get an item from her car.

When she tried to re-enter the
campus, a security guard denied her entry.

It was the second time this month that she has been denied entry onto a school’s campus – she was also denied access to Anatol Rodgers High School on September 5th.

The BUT has filed six trade disputes over conditions at the two schools in New Providence, Stephen Dillet and Uriah McPhee Primary.

Yesterday, Ms Wilson described the two primary schools as “time bombs” that had already exploded.
