Adventure Learning Centre celebrates 20 years of educating Bahamian children

MINISTER of Education, Science and Technology Jerome Fitzgerald was among officials who joined in the 20th anniversary celebrations of Adventure Learning Centre.

In his remarks, Minister Fitzgerald said beyond ALCs primary goal of bringing the message of Jesus Christ to the Bahamas, the centre has successfully structured a programme which both supplements and complements the national curriculum.

“This exciting, science based, hands-on learning experience is in keeping with the high quality of instruction which the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology endorses,” he said.

ALC is a Christian-based centre and camp that was founded in 1993 by Randy and Kimberly Grebe and offers an outdoor education programme.

The centre was built by financial donations and volunteer labour from generous supporters throughout the world. Its mission is to provide children with hands-on science based educational experiences to discover God’s creation.

The objectives of the centre are to educate, evangelise and disciple. It is estimated that over 9,000 students visit ALC on field trips each year.

Mr Fitzgerald said ALC has been an avenue for students to experience the beauty, charm and adventure that the Bahamas offers.

“It has caused the eyes of our students to be opened to the possibility of choosing a career in the sciences,” he said.

He thanked the board of directors and staff of ALC for offering such a beneficial education programme.

All guests including the board of directors of ALC, staff and students were taken on tours of the facility’s petting farm, the planetarium, and wetlands.
