Drugs smuggled in loaves of bread

A 54-year-old man is in police custody after he allegedly tried to smuggle marijuana to Mayguana in loaves of bread.

It happened around 4:45pm Tuesday.

According to reports, police in Mayaguana, acting on intelligence, conducted a search of the suspect’s bread shortly after he arrived on the mail boat. They uncovered a quantity of marijuana hidden on several loaves of bread.

The man was taken into custody. Investigations are continuing.

A 23-year-old man of the Bight, Moore’s Island, is also in police custody after he was arrested for possession of dangerous drugs.

Police say that around 11am on Tuesday, a team of officers while on Moore’s Island executed a search warrant on a residence where they discovered 30 marijuana plants ranging from four feet to ten feet in height.

The suspect and the marijuana plants were all taken into police custody and flown to New Providence.

The estimated value of the marijuana plant is $3,500.

Investigation into this matter is continuing.

In other crime news, swift action by police led to the arrest of a 37-year-old man shortly after an armed robbery on Tuesday.

According to reports, around 7:40am, a woman employee was about to open a business establishment on East Bay Street when she was approached by a man armed with a sharp object, who forced her into the building where he robbed her of a large quantity of jewellery before fleeing on foot.

A short time later, officers spotted the suspect on Elizabeth Avenue, where he was arrested. All of the stolen jewellery was found in the suspect’s possession.

Police investigations are continuing.

If there is any truth t the talks that government intends to fine persons up to $10,000 (TEN THOUAND DOLLARS) for selling retail cigarettes then more people may switch to selling marijuana where the fine is much less. Especially since the chances is that it will soon be legalized.
