A NEW political party promising to liberate Bahamians while maintaining an “open style of governance if elected” has been formed.
Business owner Allan Bain, 37, is the leader of Democrats Party (“DEMS”).
He told The Tribune yesterday that the party – which was created in February last year – has 20 participating members and a general membership range of “15 to 4000”.
It is comprised, he said, of Bahamians dismayed with successive governments of “lawless men” who fail to address the issues and plights of the “common man”.
Born in New Providence and raised in “Central Nassau and Freeport”, Mr Bain is the owner of the construction company Bain Tech Developer.
He has been married for two and a half years and has four children of ages ranging from 16 to 19.
He said his upbringing has given him tangible insight into the needs of many Bahamians.
“I went from the Children Emergency Hostel to the Ranfurly Home,” he said. “I met my father at 10 and lived with him from I was 17 to 30. He played a very important role in my life. My mother died at 24.”
Adding that his family hails from “Acklins to Andros,” Mr Bain said he is the cousin of Dr Hervis Bain, the great-grand nephew of Clarence A Bain and the third cousin of Sir Lynden Pindling.
He said: “Who suspected that someone from the Ranfurly Home would come up? Someone you had down as unfortunate?”
“Forty years ago,” he said, “my ancestors took part in liberating Bahamians, a process that ended after the first term of the Pindling administration. Today, you have to be in with the elite fractions to have piece of the pie. DEMS want to encourage Bahamians of all walks of life to be more bipartisan and vocal in order to have a piece of the pie.”
As for the current political climate, he said, today’s politicians “are lawless men that are above the law and this should not be.”
“In 2006 and 2007 disclosures were not made by all, but four Members of Parliament,” he said while declining to identify the four men who disclosed certain personal information. He added: “In the last election, some members did not make their disclosures. What about the Constitution which says that they must abide by the Supreme law?”
Mr Bain emphasided that his party is unaffiliated with any other political party.
“DEMS is not about tearing down parties and characters,” he added. “Every political party has contributed to growth, to pros and to cons. Nonetheless, the difference between this party and the other parties is that they were spawned from one another. At the moment, there really is just a one party system of attorneys and doctors in this country curbing laws for the common man to abide by while they are not subject to them.”
Adding that his party would concentrate on ending victimization and bringing about equal opportunities by tearing down the boundaries that prevent people from achieving upward mobility, Mr Bain said: “My party is in it for the long haul.”
“My philosophy is not to enact the same system that we have been handed down. We have a different style and approach of governing.”
“Our party is for everyone who accepts what is the fundamental belief that this country was formed on the gospel by young men who were inspired by God himself.”

More political parties would only work if we have proportional representation in the House of Assembly. You must get a threshhold number of the overall vote to qualify to have a seat in Parliament. As the system exists now, it doesnt help the small parties, Ask the DNA with 13,000 national votes and NO seats.

I don't know who he is, know nothing about his character or work ethics. I would like to see a system where we have investigative reporters digging into the backgrounds of these people and telling us "who they are" by reporting what they've done and how they've acted in their current and past positions. I would also like to see an intelligent panel asking intelligent questions over a series of debates to root out the complete dummies from amongst them.

Mr Bain said he is the cousin of Dr Hervis Bain, the great-grand nephew of Clarence A Bain and the third cousin of Sir Lynden Pindling. I can only hope Mr Bain is one who really cares about the future of the country and not one of the current crew steeped in either name recognition, sense of entitlement or treasure hunting in government, under and over the table, contracts.

Totally Agree ThisOurs, I think it is ridiculous for the tribune to present an article of a new candidate forming a new party without proper background investigation information.. I'm already starting to get turned off by him stating those he's related to rather than his unique qualities.. There are all sorts of business men, and being one doesn't automatically qualify anyone to lead. I have not even gotten a chance to objectively review his credentials but my B.S. meter is already of the charts..

In my world I welcome "Business owner" Allan Bain onto the political scene. We'd have rewrite our political history books, if some you had your way. Do you not know or have forgotten we once had a government in power they called the UBP, who while they worked hard behind the scenes to disenfranchise who could run for the House of Assembly, would have died and gone to heaven to have had an actual act on books, which read "prove your resume" for daring stand to represent a constituency.

Time will eventually tell what Mr. Bain's motives and intentions are. I sincerely hope that he is "indeed" qualified to function effectively in the political arena. I'm almost inclined to applaud his position thus far, seeing that it fortifies my claim that Bahamians need to seriously consider moving away from the FNM and PLP. I can only pray that he is a legitimate candidate.... if only to save what's left of our country.

Congratulations Mr. Bain for having the fortitude and love of Country to actually do something tangible.
Unlike the JACKASS'S with negative comments here that have never done anything except talk, complain and brown nose the PLP & FNM.
I suggest you look to Bermuda for guidance as they recently successfully got rid of their own corrupt PLP & UBP after decades of political stupidity. (Yes PLP & UBP)

Do you know Mr Bain? Do you know anything of the buildings he's constructed, whether they came in on time and budget and whether the customers were satisfied with the quality? Do you know anything about him? Do you know anything about how he runs his business? Any right thinking Bahamian would pause after the string of newcomers who've fizzled and done everything for themselves and nothing for the country and ask the question, what does this man have to offer. What are his finances? Is he looking to use a government posting to boost his construction portfolio? He may be the country's savior, but You don't know that, it makes sense to ask questions before rolling out the red carpet to him.

So you automatically assume that he is corrupt before he even starts? You know none of the answers to your questions yet you condemn him as if you do. We need new people to step forward in this country, so please let them have the chance to do so before you push them back in line.

Who said he was corrupt?? you didn't read a word I said. I basically said, BEFORE we hand him the keys to the city and praise him simply for raising his hand to volunteer, find out who he is. The reporter should have provided some information, where is his business, how long has it been in operation, what is his client base, is he financially viable etc, what are his customers saying about him...all of those are valid insights into what he can offer nationally. To knock someone who wants those questions answered is the same reason we have a Kentucky Fried Chicken cabinet today.

Further, if he is a true statesman, he will welcome your questions. If he is ready for this time and place, he will have prepared himself to answer all comers.

A big part of changing our future is not repeating past mistakes.. Many problems exist in our society because of the bad deal making and lack of statesmanship among our political leaders. Personally I have never been a part of PLP or FNM politics nor do I subscribe to the mentality of tribalism in any form but i do believe in people presenting qualifications to lead or do business. An example of this, to qualify for the position i currently have I had to complete college, undergo background investigation which included criminal record, credit checks and character references. I then had to take a medical polygraph, then a background polygraph. I also had to present my financial records etc. I am not suggesting all of this but if I were to be a politician I think some similar basic background should be completed before i can present myself to the people.. After this I would have to demonstrate what qualifications or assets as a leader can I contribute as a servant to the people.. A large part of the problem here is the presentation of Mr. Bain by the Tribune which does not allow us to make an objective assessment of his qualities or attributes to lead or run a party.. Being a business owner is not good enough, Craig Flowers is a business owner he's certainly not the right person to lead, even worse in the U.S Donald Trumph is a businessman but i would not want him to lead either.. Bran, i have concluded he is a part of the same b.s., he is automatically dismissed because of character flaws and one of them is a lack of humility. I read and wait everyday for the right person or party to emerge but i'm starting to lose hope. I was planning to return home in five years but have changed plans because I cannot deal with the mentalities of some of our people.. What's wrong with asking people for there qualifications or requiring standards?

It is so sad to see the negative and pessimistic comments on this article. We are overrun with corrupt and inept political leaders who we do not condemn or hold accountable, but yet here we are dragging a man through the mud who we have not even had the chance to get to know, or who has done anything other than say he would like a chance to make a difference. Perhaps he is just in it for himself, but we haven't even given him the chance to prove us wrong.

Dragging him through the mud? What are you talking about? Why don't you go to the bank withdraw every penny you have and hand it over to him to manage no questions asked. That is basically what you are asking everyone else to do. Be nice, give him a chance. NO. It is an awesome responsibility leading a country and for those that want to do it, they should be prepared for every rough question they get, if they can't handle this, they shouldn't be in this article. This is not playtime. This is my future and your future.
What I am asking for is more information on exactly who he is so I can form an opinion about him. Have you watched that commercial where the punk rocker gets a haircut a nice suit and poses as an investment banker? I'm not saying this is a parallel, I'm saying I have no information to say it isn't. I want more information before I thank The Lord for a fresh new face.

Why are Bahamians so blind...like little lambs to slaughter. People are so desperate for a change that they might very well jump from the pot into the fire without first looking to see.
I personally feel as though if this Mr. Bain feels he is an appropriate choice to be leader of out Bahamaland then he needs to address a public forum. Where he can be asked the pertinent questions...What are you ideas to move this country forward, Where do you stand on the matter of immigration and law enforcement, How do you feel about where we as a country stand financially and how would you assist in getting us out of deficit, What are you views on education and helping to improve our education system?
These are questions he should be willing and ABLE to answer. Furthermore he should have his personal life as an open book. Are you a believer of God, Are you in any financial debt, How does your company run, Are you an astute businessman, What are you educational qualifications, What places you in a position to do a better job than previous candidates?
Bahamians need to stop being so quick to jump on any bandwagon that might promise to be better than what they have now. Instead they need to properly check and scrutinize these politicians. For all we know he could be another wolf looking to sell off all the little silly lambs before they even know what's happening.
Not saying that is the case...but let time and investigations prove if this man is all he cracks up to be.

@ sheeprunner12......The majority of the electorate are definitely psychotic for continuing to vote for the PLP & FNM while everyone acknowledges both parties are totally corrupt, inept and proven beyond any doubt bad for the country and Bahamians.
