POLICE have a 35-year-old man in custody in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old girl in Grand Bahama on Saturday morning.
Alexis Aleia Smith was shot twice in the head as she left a club in King Subdivision sometime before 3am.
Witnesses say the teen girl was seen inside the club moments before she was shot by a man who she knew. The man, who is also “well known by police”, fled the area on foot.
When police arrived on the scene, they found Alexis lying on the floor dressed in a black shirt with mustard coloured slacks, and multiple gunshot wounds in her head.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police In Grand Bahama immediately began an island wide search for the gunman.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Emrick Seymour said police arrested a suspect several hours later.
The death of Alexis Aliea Smith marked Grand Bahama’s third murder for the year, and the second to take place outside a nightclub.

RUSH TO JUDGEMENT...it reads that " the police arrested a suspect..." that does not make him guilty, only a suspect until all solid evidence are presented against him. You people ! The parents, mother, father and the bar owner should be held accountable for this girl's untimely death. How and why a 15 year old can be out of her parents house attending or near a bar is inexcusable. This country greatest problem is not the young punks, but the young irresponsible men and women who bring these children into the world without any parental know how. The Bahamas is gone.

Couldn't agree with you more...as a parent of small children at the moment, I pray I will be able to do the right thing and keep them 'in check' so to speak and with enough respect and love, to trust they would not go down this path which ultimately led to this girls demise. I'd like to safely say that no way no how, if I bring my children up right, would they be hanging out at bars until 3am when they are 15 years old. 100% hold the parents and caregivers of this girl just as much responsible as the person who actually pulled the trigger. In the end though, he is the one who pulled the trigger...a couple times apparently. I don't think we will ever hear the story of what was said or transpired in that bar before she walked out, but from the reports, he followed her outside of the bar where he proceeded to shoot her. Ya just DON'T DO THAT!! Something is not right in that persons mind. Now...sadly...it's a bar atmosphere, most likely alcohol was involved...defense can now go down the path that he was intoxicated and not responsible for his actions in the diminished capacity. He will probably get charged with manslaughter or some lesser charge that first degree murder, and yes, will sit in our jails until he dies...won't qualify for the death penalty.

Unfortunately what will wind up happening is he will go to court, get the death penalty and then appeal so many times that eventually the Privy Council will step in and say it's inhumane to have someone on death row so long. He will then spend the remainder of his days enjoying the free food, clothes, and shelter that HMP provides.
What needs to happen is F*CK the Privy Council and start hanging these mf'ers for committing murder. Clogging up the jail and wasting Bahamian tax payers money because they need to be fed and provided for while in jail. Start setting examples and show that the Bahamas does not tolerate murderers and if you commit a crime you will be punished. These dudes take the justice system for a joke, because they know they will never be put to death.
If we started administering the death penalty to some of these guys I believe some would think twice before committing murder. They must need to start assassinating government officials for them to see that something is fundamentally wrong with our society.

It's also an example of a failed system. This child was sent SEVERAL times to the Girl's Industrial School only to be returned and clearly continue on a path that eventually lead to her untimely demise.
This should be a wake-up call to the government as well to show that they are failing these young people in areas where it matters most. Obviously she had behavioral issues...she should not have been allowed back into her parents care. I am not saying the system would have been better, but in this case who knows.
They need to start the rehabilitation at the roots, our country is slowly going to hell in a hand basket while the government officials are concerned about how much more money they can pump out of the Bahamian people.
SMH!!! I am so disgusted at times with The Bahamas.

Absolutely, we need to approach the problem of young people to stop the problems we have today from continuing in the future.
That and cut the rampant corruption committed by our politicians so that we have money to pay for programs to help youth.

I am sometimes 'in the middle of the road' when it come to Capital Punishment, simply because, let's be honest there are many behind the scenes factors that contribute to the many "guilty" and "confessions" we get in the Bahamas especially police beatings; However, THIS? is COLD BLOODED MURDER! This 35 year old 'man' (if I can call him that) needs to pay with HIS life! Regardless of this 15 year old having disciplinary problems, people change on a daily basis, not to mention, really, she was still a kid! IMHO, Justice should be quick and the effects thereof should be long lasting!!

That's a just, impartial, and fair judicial system comes into play. Capital Punishment is a sentenced reserved for without a doubt perpetrators of murders and other heinous crimes. If there is even a shadow of a reasonable doubt then that is where life in prison or the equivalent is sought.
