Woman in shock after handbag snatched

AN elderly Shirlea woman was put to bed in shock yesterday after her handbag was snatched from her arm as she struggled to take her groceries from the trunk of her car that was parked in her driveway.

The attack, which came from behind, was so sudden and so brutal that she did not realise what was happening. She was left with a cut on her hand.

A neighbour, who saw the attack, told her family what she had seen.

The woman, who had been shopping at the top of the hill on Mackey Street, had just pulled into the driveway of her home shortly after 1pm, had opened the truck of her car, and with her handbag still over her arm had started to unpack the groceries.

Suddenly, a young man ran up behind her, forcefully ripped the handbag from her arm, and ran off as fast as he could to a waiting dark blue car that sped off. The dazed woman, who did not realise what had happened, was left in a state of confusion.

The woman’s bank was immediately notified and her credit card cancelled and her bank account frozen. It is understood that there was very little cash in her handbag.
