GRAND Bahama Police conducted a walkabout on Tuesday in the area where two young men were gunned down and killed on Monday.

A team of officers, led by ASP Michael Brathwaite, were out and about between 10am to 11am in the Garden Villas area, which is a known hot spot for crime, drugs, and violence.

He appealed to residents and persons with information into the shootings at Garden Villas to come forward.

On Monday, police were called to investigate two separate shootings at Adventurer’s Way.

The first incident occurred around 1:30am when a young man known as Leonard Pierre was found shot to death. The second incident occurred around 9pm when a group of men opened fire on two men, one of whom was fatally injured. The second man is in hospital with leg injuries.

The man shot and killed on Monday evening was Sean Adderley. It is believed that the shooting may have been in retaliation for Pierre’s death.

Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the victims in Monday’s shootings.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Emrick Seymour told reporters Monday evening that police are following several leads into who may have been responsible for the shootings.

Mr Seymour also expressed concerns about the shooting death of a 15-year-old girl at a club in Eight Mile Rock.

He said that the business establishment has been closed down following the incident, pending further police investigations.

ACP Seymour said business establishments with liquor licenses are not supposed to harbour minors or sell them alcoholic beverages.

Alexis Aliea Smith, 15, of Holmes Rock, was gunned down early Sunday morning outside the Platinum Lounge in Kings Subdivision. Reports are that Smith was shot in the head by a man she knew.

Mr Seymour said that police will be monitoring business establishments to ensure that they operate within the confines of their license and the law.

“We are very concerned about the fact that a minor was coming from the club and I met with the proprietor of the establishment.

“It is closed as a result of police investigations, and until the police are satisfied that all relevant mechanisms can be put in place where such an incident will not occur again.

“That is what will happen anytime we find a serious breach of this magnitude,” he said.

Mr Seymour said the police will seek to petition the licensing authority to revoke indefinitely the licenses of businesses that breach the law regarding minors.

“We cannot have people operating how they want to, and now look at the result, a juvenile has lost her life as a result.

“It does not augur well for the community and we want to urge businesses to operate within the confines of their license, because we will be out there monitoring them,” he said.
