‘Christie embarrassed himself and the nation’

OPPOSITION Leader Dr Hubert Minnis said yesterday Prime Minister Perry Christie “embarrassed” himself and the nation when he said Bahamians should “line up and come to him for advice”.

Dr Minnis’ comments came after Mr Christie said VAT co-ordinator Ishamel Lighbourne was not the only person he attempted to help to save their home. In fact, Mr Christie said he has helped “hundreds” in his capacity as Prime Minister and at least three or four people with their mortgages since the Lightbourne issue came to light. He also encouraged Bahamians who have been “lining up” for help to go and see him.

“The Prime Minister said he was making an effort to help the bank recap its losses, that is the most stupid statement I have ever heard. He was trying to help the bank? What about the people who voted him in? These banks are laying off Bahamians, Bahamians are losing their homes. He was voted in by the people, not the bank,” he said.

“It is embarrassing for him to say those who need advice should line up to see him. He should help them and give them solutions. Why must we line up to see him? People have been lining up for the jobs he promised, lining up for help because poverty is on the rise and now we should line up for advice? That is ridiculous. It is unfortunate that Mr Lightbourne may have lost his house, but the Prime Minster should be helping many, not just one. It is a mockery to the Bahamas and the people.”

Dr Minnis said if Mr Christie is telling the truth, and he did help three or four people with their mortgages, his efforts were more successful than government’s “failed mortgage relief plan” that only helped three individuals.

Got to agree with the leader of the opposition on this one. The PM would do himself a favour by just letting the matter die. However, he continues to make himself a target for the FNM by continuing with his nonsensical utterances over the Lightbourne affair. Lord have mercy!

He is absolutely ridiculous- I couldn't believe the news when I heard him talking this morning.HOW EMBARRASSING - I was too shame for him and for our country.

But you'll always have people like our friend Kevin Evans who's letter to the Tribune says we should not "gloat" over Lightbourne's loss. This has nothing to do with gloating and it is sad that so many people are completely brainwashed by this foolishness that the PM is spewing. The people supporting/agreeing with the PM are showing their ignorance and it just proves that we are not teaching our kids to think critically and outside the box. We need to look beyond party colors and what favors we can get for free- start realizing that what he has done is not helping the country or our people in the long run. All we are telling people is that it is okay to not pay what we owe because we will get bailed out eventually, it's all about who you know.

Imagine Mr. embarrassment Himself talking about embarrassment . Mr.Lightbourne;s affair seems to be over now so The Doctor and his deputy along with the woman from one of the daily newspapers can pitch a party.

By the way has Dr. Minnis paid his bill for all of those events he had at Government Hill Senator after Senator. and he did say he would not pay. Some one of the DNA party had offered to pay for him did they.?

Dr. Minnis and his followers which are few,are all over the place seeing if they can find something to criticize. so far they have found nothing . worth while. So he has not had His most happiest moment lately. He even criticize PM Christie for having an audience with the Pope. since then the Queen of England And the President of the United States has visited the Pope.

Visiting the pope is a good thing birdie...but if your country is on the verge of devaluation, you have no money, your people are losing their jobs and their homes..perhaps...just perhaps you might think for a minute..I don't really need to take a twenty person crew on a world tour through London, Italy with a pope visit included. Perhaps that money could be saved for a more essential service. After all Jesus says every man can come directly to him, we no longer need an intercessor.

U all PLPs stop grasping at straws............. 90% of PLPs are embarrased......... 10% are hoodwinked. Hopefully that leaves the vast majority of other Bahamians who think!!!!!!!!!

The rule of law, process, order, competency, morality, integrity, common sense, these and many others are all missing. What society can function properly without as a general rule these things exist or are at least seriously attempted to follow by all, especially leaders.
